LOWTHER, OPAL M. - Opal M. Lowther of Moncton, formerly River Glade. It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our dear mother, who died at age 85 at home on March 14th, 2014. Born in Stoney Island, NS, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Freda (Nickerson) Ross. She worked for many years at the Jordon Memorial Sanatorium as an occupational assistant. She was a very special mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She loved spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her son, Earlin (Paulet) Smith, daughter, Donna (Bill Stewart) Keith, three beloved grandchildren, Derrick (Danna) Smith, Denny Lisa (Chris Moore) LeBlanc, Nicholas Keith and her great grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica), Colton, Caleb, Colins. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Quinlan, Virginia (John) Waybret, brother, Kenneth (Yola) Ross, her special friend and caregiver Kim Gass and several nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents Opal was predeceased by her first husband Edward Smith, her second husband Lawrence Lowther, brothers, Valphy, Enslow, Durwood and Shenton Ross; sisters, Vivian Nickerson and Gardenia Wurziger.
Resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home with visitation on Sunday, March 16th, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at Fair Haven Funeral Home on Monday at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Opal’s memory may be made to the Arthritis Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
