SMITH, J. NELSON (1923 - 2014) - Nelson Smith passed peacefully at Moncton Hospital on Friday, March 14. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mabel (Nickerson) Smith. Nelson served in the Canadian Army during WWII. Nelson retired from Air Canada with over 25 years of service. Nelson was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Melda (Steeves). He will be sadly missed by his daughters Susan (Peter) Spence of Cherry Burton; Beverley Stone of Moncton; son in law Dale Biggar of Juniper. Grandchildren Cathryn, Laura, Nick, Victoria, Rachel, Elizabeth, Emily and Matthew and great grandson Liam; sisters, Audrey Currie, Doris (Sterling) Gilmore; brother, Donald (Connie); sisters in law Lois Steeves and Norma Steeves; brother in law Leslie (Gwen) Steeves, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Nelson was predeceased by daughter Debbie Biggar; granddaughter Jennifer Biggar; sister Elsie Raynor and brothers Clayton and Douglas Smith. Nelson was a member of Riverview Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, carpentry and travelling with Melda.
A funeral service will be held at the chapel of Fair Haven Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 11:00 am followed by a reception in the Garden View Reception Room. Interment in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations made in Nelson's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Society or Riverview Baptist Church.
