June became well known in the Clarenville area through the clothing stores that she operated with her husband, and then alone, for 30 years. She had an eye for fashion and many times bought with certain customers in mind, truly providing a personal touch. She belonged to Memorial United Church and the United Church Women for over 50 years. She was a faithful member of Cormack Rebekah Lodge and a past Noble Grand. Always physically active, she took up cross-country skiing in her 50s and enjoyed 30 years on the trails with the Clarenville Ski Club and her skiing buddies Anne Stanley and Ruby (Garnier) Thorne. In summer she indulged her love of the outdoors by golfing and gardening. As she got older she settled for the less demanding sport of bowling. In 2005, finding herself missing her family, she moved to Ontario where she lived for almost 10 years. She had many adventures along the way, finally ending her journey in Alberta. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and pie-maker extraordinaire, much loved by her family and deeply mourned. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at Memorial United Church, Clarenville in July (date to be announced). Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
