Frances Jean Smith, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on Jan. 31, 1924, Jean was the daughter of the late George and Mary (MacDonald) Chapman. Jean was a woman of many interests from gardening to bird watching, reading and the cabin in Boularderie, but her greatest interest and love was her family and friends. She had the ability to listen which connected her to people especially young people which led to lifelong friendships. She will be missed but her caring spirit will live on in all of us.
She is survived by her daughter, Heather, South Maitland; her two sons, Clarence (Patrice), Sydney Mines, Ian (Yvonne), Boularderie; her two grandsons, Broderick, St. John’s and Benjamin, Halifax and also her sister, Yvonne Chapman, Edmonton.
Jean was predeceased by husband, Robert 'Bobbie' Smith; her sister, Shirley Chapman and Heather’s partner, Jack Robinson.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who treated Jean like a family member, especially Dr. Paul Hickey, staff at both the Northside General Hospital and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Northside Homemakers Service and special caregivers, Colleen Dolhanty and Bernadette Snow.
Cremation has taken place by request. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Family burial will take place at a later date.
