Margaret Rose Carrigan

Margaret Rose Carrigan

Date de décès : 26 mars 2014

November 16, 1946 - March 26, 2014 - Passed away peacefully in her sleep at home: beloved friend, great-aunt, aunt, sister, nanny, super-mom and cherished wife, Margaret Rose Carrigan (née Fowler). A woman of laughter, adventure, love, and a wily practitioner in the art of the infamous family wit, Marg leaves so many lives much richer for her joyful participation in them. Her absence leaves a void in all who knew her. She will be missed always and remembered forever with deep love. Margaret was pre-deceased by her mother (Sarah Fowler (née Byrne) of St. John's) and father (Joseph P. Fowler of Cupids and St. John's), and by her brother, Ron. Educated at Mercy Convent, Holy Heart of Mary and Memorial University, she taught at St. Bon's in the mid-1960s and spoke all her life with fond memories of "her boys" of her grade four homeroom. In 1968, Margaret Rose Fowler wed the love of her life, a young Cape Bretoner and then officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force named Victor Ronald Carrigan. Together, Marg and Ron set out on a journey that took them through military bases in several provinces before finding their way back to St. John's in 1974 with two young sons and a third on the way. Marg and Ron have lived happily in Topsail Pond since the early 1980s, during which time she completed yet another degree (Cartography) from Memorial and played a role on the leading edge of online communications between MCP and the offices of Newfoundland and Labrador physicians. After just 67 years, Marg leaves us too soon. It is hard, and we extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many friends who have touched our family already with expressions of love and compassion. Only now can we get away with celebrating her life; she herself would have protested all the fuss and attention. That's who she was. Margaret Rose Carrigan will be missed by her life partner, soul mate, best friend and husband, Dr. Ron Carrigan; sons Russ (Sherry Reid) with grandchildren Michaela and Jack; Colin (Andrea Chafe) with grandchildren Bridget and Eamon; and Scott, along with father-in-law Victor Carrigan of Marion Bridge. Also with joyful and lasting memories are the extended Fowler clan: Frank (Patty), Cy (Donna), Dave (Anne Marie), Noel (Irina), Barb (Roger Greenwood), Blanche Fowler, Peggy Fowler, Mona Skinner, Flora Fowler, Shelagh Fowler and a great many nieces and nephews whom she loved very dearly. Margaret was a beautiful and inspirational lady. Unparalleled with her cod chowder, French onion soup and old-school casseroles, her many culinary talents live on through her three sons who learned literally at their mom's apron strings. Her grandkids will always know these favorites as Nanny's recipes. We are all blessed for having experienced life with her. In accordance with her wishes, Marg's remains have been cremated. Visitations are at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Friday 7-9 and Saturday 2-4 and 7-9. A memorial service will be held in Carnell's Memorial chapel on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are gratefully accepted by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador. Please visit www.carnells.com to sign the memorial guest book.
