DORIS WING
December 4, 1924 ~ March 12, 2014
With great sorrow we announce the passing of Doris Wing on March 12, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sechelt.
Born December 4, 1924, in the farming community of Dalroy, Alberta, to Ethel and Frederick Gilbart, siblings were Edwin, May and little sister June. Doris’ values of family and service to others were garnered then as the family endured the great Depression.
In her teen years, the family moved to Calgary, where she was able to complete high school. Later meeting Gordon, they married and had three children, Bob, Ken and Pat.
After her mothers’ death in 1966, the family, along with her dad, moved to Sechelt, where her Aunt Vera and Uncle Joe Sallis lived. With the kids in school, Doris enjoyed working at the Sechelt Medical Clinic as their bookkeeper and office manager.
In 1977, Doris and Gordon moved to Hussar, Alberta, where Gordon worked for Pioneer Grain as their agent. They were well liked and active in the church and community there.
They returned to Sechelt in 1989 to be with their expanded family and enjoy retirement. Everywhere Doris lived, she attracted the best of friends, with whom she maintained lifelong relationships.
She is predeceased by her parents, siblings and Gordon (June 2012). Survived by her three children, Bob (Donna), Ken (Marion) and Pat; grandchildren Christina, Sharon (Chris), Brad (Aspen), Andrea (Darren) and Laura (Jason); and great-grandchildren Andrew, Emily, Hannah, Sophie, Tyler, Kaitlyn and Carter.
Doris’ last week on earth came suddenly, but she was surrounded with love by all her family and many close friends, whether in person or by phone, all of whom are happy to know she is in God’s care and reunited with Gordon and others gone before her. We will miss her gentle nature and her baking, especially her shortbread at Christmas.
Special thanks to Dr. Forgie and the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital, Pastor Ian Nestegaard Paul, the women of Living Faith Lutheran, Doreen and her neighbours in the Lions Seniors Housing.
Service will be held at Living Faith Lutheran Church in Davis Bay on Saturday, April 19, at 2 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief or the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society.
