With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father and grandfather, Michael Francis Smith who passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at home.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Clarence ‘Skiff’ and Evangeline (Nearing) Smith.
Mike loved talking about his grandchildren and was a great Nascar racing fan. He will be sadly missed by many relatives and friends.
Mike is survived by his wife, Mary (Went) Smith; two daughters, Patrice (Rick) Bridge, Bucerias, Mexico, Andrea (Dan) Hache, Courtena, B.C. and one son, Michael (Lisa Nelson), Petawawa, Ont. Mike is also survived by his grandchildren, who were his greatest joy in life, Jessica (Devon Miller), Kingston, Ont., Jordan, Jack, Isabella, Olivia, Emma, Micheala and by one sister, Mary Monica (Greg Kennedy), Windsor, Ont.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. all in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment will take place at a later date in MacLeod’s Crossing Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and as an expression of sympathy for Mike, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the N.S. Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of one’s choice.
