MACKINLEY, ALENA K - 1922-2014 - Miramichi - Alena Kathleen MacKinley, widow of the late Robert A. MacKinley, of Princess St., Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the age of 91. Born in Chatham, on July 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alexander "Campbell" and Ellen (Foley) Russell. She was a long time valued employee of the W.S. Loggie Co. Ltd. She was a lifetime member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Miramichi and served as treasurer for upwards of 60 years. Through much of her lifetime she was a devoted Sunday School Teacher and member of various church groups and most recently was made an Honorary President of the Miramichi Presbyterial Atlantic Mission Society. One of Lena's missions in life was providing nourishment to others, serving both body and mind, and for this she will long be remembered.
She is survived by four sisters, Dorothy Creighton (James), Eileen Lobban, Frances Tetford (Gordon) and Betty Barrett; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, each of whom she was very fond and who loved her in return. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert, in 2010; two sisters, Peggy Bulmer and Helen Jean Arnold; brothers in law Byron Lobban, Howard Bulmer and Frank Arnold.
Visitation was at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Thursday. The funeral service was held from Adams Funeral Home Chapel, on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Derek Krunys, assisted by Rev. Allyson MacLeod. Music for the service was provided by Janet Creighton and the Calvin Presbyterian Church Choir. The hymns were "Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven", The King Of Love My Shepherd Is" and "Praise Him, Praise Him, Jesus Our Blessed Redeemer". The choir anthem was "Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah". The eulogy was offered by Rev. Allyson MacLeod. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Arnold and Frank MacKinley. Active pallbearers were Gregg Barrett, James Breau, George Bulmer, Harold Cameron, Walter Doyle, Ian Lobban. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, later in the spring.
