Gordon Sedgwick

Gordon Sedgwick

Date de décès : 19 avril 2014

Gordie was born in Rosetown on Oct 7th, 1927, and passed away at Swift Current on Apr 19th, 2014. He was the second child born to Norman and Rebecca Sedgwick. Gordie and his three sisters and brother were raised on the family farm two miles south of Chipperfield, and all attended the one-room school at Aird. He finished his last two years by correspondence, except his spelling. He began farming with Norman and Grant well before he finished his education. Some folks would rather go to the fair, but Gordie would rather have been looking after his farm.
A few winters Gord supplemented the farm income working in Saskatoon for Artic Ice and InterCon, staying with cousin Orville and Mert Sedgwick.
He was a true and loyal friend to those who became close to him, supporting his Mother and Father in their older age.
His sisters doted on him, helping him in his early days to pursue his farming, and the other love of his life, fastball. Even in the busiest season there had to be time for ball, holding his post at shortstop, and even pitching from time to time, knocking them over the fence, first for Chipperfield, Greenan, and then in later life the team from Road Haven, Arizona.
Gordie enjoyed his country living, hunting, fishing, riding his Ski-doo and catching those coyotes.
Gordie may have spent too much time on that farm, and was late in life when romance finally came his way. He met a widowed school teacher with two lovely children from Swift Current and they soon became a new family.
Gordon and Vivian were married Mar 7, 1981 in Swift Current, Sk and made their home between the family farm and Swift Current before retiring to Swift Current.

Gordie and Vivian found Arizona, then Road Haven, playing ball, pool and returning to Saskatchewan to RV with the Good Sams club in the summer. Gordie and Vivian enjoyed the Seniors Games, attending three times.

Gordie is survived by his wife, Vivian, of 33 years; stepdaughter Laurell Slusar; grandchildren Carly and Kyle Slusar. He is also survived by two sisters Helen Quick and Norma Flaig; one brother Grant (Phyllis) Sedgwick, brother-in-law Fred Robinson, along with many numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and grand nephews.
He was predeceased by his stepson Lane Braddish, his parents Norman and Rebecca Sedgwick, sister Ethel Robinson, brother-in-laws Morris Quick, Fred Flaig, Hugh Vance, sister-in-law Jean Vance, nephews Jim Quick and Wayne Robinson.

The celebration of his life will be held at the Alpine Church of God, 925 - 2nd Ave S.E., Swift Current, on Friday May 2, 2014, at 2 pm. Pastor Alex Allan officiating.
