The family of Amelia ‘Millie’ (Mrazek) O’Neill a resident of Hickman Street, Glace Bay, are saddened to announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born on Hornes Road, Mira she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Sikora) Mrazek.
Millie was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her late husband, Gussie, enjoyed their many travels around our beautiful Cape Breton Island but also had a soft spot for PEI and Annapolis Valley, their camping trips with their children and the many beautiful sunsets on the Mira River. She was a talented seamstress and loved to sew especially for her only daughter, Chris and her grandchildren. Many a foot and hand were kept warm with the pairs of socks and mittens she produced.
She was a very compassionate and caring person who was happiest doing special things for others. If she wasn’t at home you would find her walking with her dog, Fifi or out in her garden or one of her favourite pastimes, picking berries.
She is survived by her sons, Carl of Albert Bridge, Pat (Linda) of Round Island, Paul (Cheryl) of Tanglewood, Sydney and Vince (Rebecca) of Glace Bay; and her daughter, Christine (Andre) Gouthro of Ajax Ontario and her canine baby, Fifi.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Bobby) Reid, Brad (Lisa) O’Neill, Michael (Nancy) O’Neill, Scott (Candace) O’Neill, Ryan (Sarah) O’Neill, Cassandra and Andrew Philip Gouthro, Kaitlyn and Dylan O’Neill and great-grandchildren, Avery and Brennan Reid, Carter and Kieran O’Neill. Millie cherished all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they will miss Grammie dearly.
Millie is also survived by one brother, Joe (Shirley) Mrazek, brother-in-law, Gerald (wife Jessie) O’Neill and sisters-in-law, Carmella (husband Rannie) Campbell and Dorothy Mrazek.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Gus and infant son, Anthony Joseph, siblings, Bert, Ernest, Christina, Albina, Mary, twin sisters, Florence and Dorothy, Agnes and Rudy.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A reception will be held in the funeral home immediately following the service. Interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
