WEST, JOHN GORDON "JACK" - Jack passed away peacefully in Ivany Place, Bedford, with loved ones at his side on Friday, April 25, 2014. Jack was a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather. He was born July 2, 1927 and was the son of the late Cecil F. West and Lesley E. He is survived by his wife Joan, his son David (Lynne) and daughter Carol and was "Poppy" to granddaughters Victoria, Rebecca (Nick), Madeline, grandson Grant, and great-granddaughter Lucy. He was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth G. "Betty" West. Jack was employed for many years with Air Canada, where he held a number of positions, prior to his retirement in 1978 and starting his own business Seawest Sales. When Jack wasn't working, he enjoyed sailing and particularly on his beloved Saint John River. Additionally, he was an enthusiastic walker, covering Bedford from one end to the other on an almost daily basis making friends and talking to neighbours he met along the way. Jack also loved his home and took great pleasure in its gardens and bird's eye view of the Basin. And, he adored his little cat Gypsy (Boo). The family would like to thank Ivany and the staff of Lupin Hills for their loving care and support of Jack the last two years.
A memorial service, will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, Bedford, May 1 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated by the Alzheimer's Society, animal protection/wildlife societies, or any charity of your choice.
