WESTVILLE – Jean-Paul LaLande passed away early morning, April 29, 2014, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Montreal, P.Q. on October 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Philias and Marie LaLande.
It was in Montreal that he met and married the late Rita Cyr of Westville, N.S. and was eventually to live the vast majority of his life in Westville. Jean-Paul was founder of J. Paul's Burner Service, the first independent heating company in Nova Scotia, which he continued to operate for several decades.
At the outbreak of WWII, he enlisted at Longueil, Quebec and was subsequently posted to the 664 Air OP Squadron, 4th Division, First Canadian Army and saw combat in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. He was intensely proud of his service to his country.
Jean-Paul will be dearly missed by his five children: Paul (Maggie), Anne Campbell, Phillip (Charlene), Darlene MacKenzie and Pierre; and brother Guy. Affectionately known as Papa, he is also survived by grandchildren: Charmaine and Greg; David, Jean-Paul, Justin, and Damien; Daniel and Kellianne; Marcus; Danielle, Dominique and Rochelle; as well as seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Rita (Cyr) and son-in-law, Greg Campbell.
Jean-Paul is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a service on Friday at 6:30 at the Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from The Church of The Holy Name, Westville. Interment will be in the Holy Name Cemetery.
