It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Nelsona 'Nellie' Marie Gallop, (nee Beaton), age 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Dominion, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Mary (nee Mackay) Beaton. Nellie lived in Leitches Creek most of her married life, raising her three sons. She was a devoted member of St. Columba United Church, Leitches Creek, a leader with C.G.I.T., a longtime member of the United Church of Canada, a member of the church's U.C.W., a Sunday school teacher and a mentor to many young people in the community. She enjoyed playing golf and curling as well as camping across the country with her husband Fred in their trailer.
Nellie is survived by her three sons, Fred (Caroline) Gallop, Beaverbank and their children Ross Gallop, Lower Sackville and Rod (Ann-Marie) Gallop, Harbour Breton, Nfld.; son, Brian (Susan) Gallop, Balls Creek and their children, Kim (Troy) Roper, Florence, Doug (Laura) Ross, Ottawa; Darren (Alison) Gallop, Sydney, Kenny (Kelly) Gallop, Toronto, Christina Gallop, Balls Creek; son, Paul (Sharon) Gallop, Upper Leitches Creek and their children, Blair Gallop, Sydney and Cynthia Gallop, Upper Leitches Creek; her seven great-grandchildren, Abigail & Cooper Gallop, Khris & Morgan Roper, Matthew, Kyra and Lauchlan Ross; her brother-in-law, Jack (Sandy) Gallop, Toronto and also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Fred (2013); two brothers, George Beaton, Roderick Beaton and sister, Thelma MacNeil.
Visitation for Nellie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the St. Columba United Church, Leitches Creek with Rev. Tom Whent officiating. Interment will follow at Calvin United Church Cemetery, Upper Leitches Creek. A reception at St Columbia United Church Hall will be held following the interment.
