Marie "Imelda" Gautreau
GAUTREAU, MARIE “IMELDA” - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Imelda Gautreau (nee Arsenault). Mom died on May 3, 2014 at the age of 79, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was born in St. Philip, PEI, on October 17, 1934. Widow to Jean-Claude and predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Celina Arsenault; her sister, Mary-Anne Robichaud; and brothers, Roosevelt (Baba) Arsenault and Anthony Arsenault. Survived by her sister, Sr Louise Arsenault; brother Gus (Zita); and brother-in-law, Al Robichaud. Mom will be dearly missed by her children, Claudette King; Carol; Rod (Faye); Tina Parfitt (John); Shelly (Gary Ennis); Gary (Tina); Joe; and Chris (Dayna). Her twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren mourn the loss of their Nana and Mémère. Numerous nieces and nephews fondly remember her in their love. Our mother kept very active, working in her gardens, walking on her treadmill, hula hooping, dancing and more recently took her first swimming lessons with her sister. She donated to a variety of charities and over the years kept thousands of people warm with her knitted mittens, blankets and hats. Each year endless hours were put into making things for her famous Christmas goodie baskets. Our mother had a smile that warmed, words that encouraged, and a heart that loved and gave so freely and sweetly to everyone. We have been so very blessed to have had such a beautiful woman as our mother. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bobby's Hospice for taking such good care of our mother during her last days.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road Saint John (646-2424).
