McBurnie, Mary Ella Madeline, 89, of Economy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Truro. Born in Miami Florida she was a daughter of the late William Edward and Mary (Tossell) Lahart. She was a resident of Economy from 1946 until this past year. From her home Madeline operated the Economy Post Office for 20 years and was very active in all community events and affairs. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 72 Great Village, the Economy United Church, the UCW and the Cobequid Garden Club. She was a founding member of the West Colchester Development Association and a strong believer of Tidal Power. She was always willing to give a helping hand to others. She is survived by daughter, Linda McBurnie, Economy; son, Harold (Frances) McBurnie, Belfast, PEI; brother, Allen Lahart, Vernon, Conn.; grandchildren, Patrick, Laura, Alana, Allison; 5 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon; 2 sisters. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, and funeral service 11 am Saturday, May 10, all in the Economy United Church, Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating, interment to follow in the Economy Cemetery. A reception will then be held in the Economy Recreation Centre.
