It is with saddened hearts we regretfully announce the passing of Benjamin Franklyn Aulenback, beloved husband, father and grandfather. He passed away peacefully Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Halifax, N.S., he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Lewis) and Eldred Aulenback. Benny lived most of his life in Sydney. Together with his wife, Shirley they raised seven children. Benny was a prominent businessman in Sydney and a top notch ESSO man. He had three service stations at a young age, most known for Benny’s Esso on the Esplanade. He was well known within the Imperial oil business world.
In his earlier days, Benny enjoyed a good game of hockey and was known as an All Star and a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He was part of the Kinsman of Sydney and had many a story to share. Benny was daring and a prankster, from racing cars on the frozen Sydney harbour to bringing home his winning bid on an out house door. He was a kind and gentle soul who will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Benny is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (Green) and his children, Elizabeth Dickie (Jimi), Benny Aulenback Jr. (Lisa), Brenda O’Dea (Eddy), Dawn Foeller (Mark), Chris Collishaw (Natalie), Shawn Collishaw, Linda Deleskie (Donnie) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Benny also leaves behind his precious dog, Lucky.
Also, leaving to mourn are his sisters, Audrey, Hamilton, Shirley, Florida, Margaret, Westmount, and Deanna (Jim) Connors, Westmount.
Benny was predeceased by his sister, Ivy 'Sis'.
A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful nurses and staff of 4A of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as Harbour View Rehab Facility for their dedication and kindness.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 7-9 p.m. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Laura McCue officiating. Interment to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
