We are sad to announce the death of Roy Gordon Grant, 73, a resident of Southside Boularderie, on Thursday, May 8, 2014.
Born on Dec. 7, 1940, Roy was the son of the late Alexander and Isabel (MacDonald) Grant.
Roy graduated from Teachers College and later with a degree from the University of New Brunswick. He taught school in Fort MacKay, Alta., Clarks Harbour and Windsor, N.S. After retiring, he returned to the old homestead and looked after his elderly mother until her death.
Roy is survived by his chosen son Marc (Annie) and grandson Kegan and by his sisters, Jean, Shirley (Jack), Laura (Tom), and his brothers, Duncan (Thelma), Earl (Dianne), Graham (Lilly), Murray (Gloria) and also by his many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Willard (Shirley) Grant.
The family are extremely grateful to the VON and palliative care staff for their wonderful care that made it possible for Roy to remain and die at home.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Roy will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry, with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in MacDonald Cemetery, Ross Ferry.
Family flowers only and instead of memorial donations it is Roy’s wish that you plant a tree in his memory.
