Amedus Gallant

GALLANT, AMÉDUS - Amédus “Meddy” Gallant, 88, of Moncton, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Villa du Repos. Born September 11, 1925 in Mont Carmel, PEI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rosalie (Arsenault) Gallant. Prior to his retirement, he was a truck driver for Speedway. “Meddy” was a fiddler who enjoyed his music. He played regularly at “La Grange” and with several different bands throughout the years. He had been playing the fiddle and other musical instruments since he was six years old. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Thérèse (Pellerin); two daughters: Patricia “Patsy” Richard (Denis) of Moncton and Sylvia Girouard (Philippe) of Dieppe; two sons: Paul of Williamstown and Ronald “Ronnie” (Ginette) of Moncton; five grandchildren: Kim, Christopher, Michael, Rachelle and Marc; four great-grandchildren: Gregory, Zachary, Grace, Sara, and another one on the way; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Alyre; also six sisters: Rose, Zilda, Edna, Zéline, Tarzile and Sr. Zélianne. Amédus’ family would like to thank the staff of the Dr. G.-L. Dumont Hospital and Villa du Repos for their excellent care and kindness given throughout his illness.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours Tuesday May 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, and Wednesday from 9 am until time of departure (10:15). The funeral mass will be celebrated at Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix R.C. Church, 87 Murphy Avenue, Moncton on Wednesday May 14 at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Dieppe. In memory of Médus, a contribution to NB Heart and Stroke Foundation Fund or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. www.salonfrenette.com
