Schafer: Anton "Tony" Philip Schafer, age 72, of Abbey, Sk. passed away May 4, 2014 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. The memorial service was held at 3:30 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014 from the Abbey Community Center with Deacon Bob Williston officiating. The life tribute was presented by Morgan Powell. The interment service took place at the Abbey Community Cemetery. Tony is survived by his four sons; Lloyd (Virgina), Collin (Carla), Kirk (Loni) and Leon (Tara); grandchildren Seth and Kirren; brother; James (Marilyn), sister-in-law; Twyla (Bob Corrigal), nieces; Michelle and Nancy and nephew Corey. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Rose Schafer; his wife Roberta in 2012 and his sister Lucy Ann. Tony was born in Prelate, Sk. on August 31, 1941. He attended school at Lemford and Eston High School. He was united in marriage to Roberta Joanne Kirk on March 27, 1967 in Lancer. During his life Tony worked as a teacher at the Abbey High School, the R.M of Miry Creek and then operated his own small business which was Global Services. He was a member of the Abbey Kinsmen Club, the Abbey Choir, and played in dance bands for over 35 years and served on the Abbey Hall Board. Music was always one of Tony's main interest but he was also a great handyman and could repair anything. He also enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, flying model airplanes and assisting in various community activities. Tony loved watching baseball, curling and especially watching his children and grandchildren in their activities. Tony enjoyed peaceful times sitting by a camp fire and listening to stories. Tony was a dedicated educator, talented musician, devoted father, husband, grandfather and brother and was very active in the community. A true gentleman. Tony will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his family and friends. In Tony's memory, memorial donation may be made to the Abbey Community Cemetery Fund.
