Donald Walker
WALKER, DONALD GERALD – Donald Gerald Walker of Quispamsis passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital with his family at his side on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Born in Saint John, August of 1937, he was the son of the late Hazel (Flowers) and Henry Whysal Walker. Donald worked as a fire fighter for the City of Saint John for over 34 years and was a rescue diver. He retired as District Chief in 1994. Donald was an active member and steward for the Quispamsis United Church. He was a member of the Fire Fighters Union Local #771 and enjoyed Latin Line dancing, bowling and model trains. In earlier years he was in the Service Battalion and was an accomplished member of the Saint John Judo Club through the YMCA. Donald was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who loved spending time with his family and gave the best hugs. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Annie (Wong) Walker of Quispamsis; sons, Larry of Hammonds Plains, NS, Donny Jr. (Karen Ferguson) of Nerepis and Danny (Shelly Gauthier) of Rothesay; three precious grandchildren, Loren, Emma and Danielle; brother, Lawrence (Shirley) of Rothesay; sister-in-law, Simone Walker of Maces Bay; several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by brother, Max Walker; and sister, Shirley Carlton.
Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 2 to 9 pm. Memorial service will be held from the Quispamsis United Church, 372 Hampton Road, Quispamsis, on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald's memory can be made to the Quispamsis United Church or to the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
