It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Stevens, on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Eskasoni, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Martha (Denny) Sylliboy.
Dorothy organized and attended the first pilgrimage trip to St. Anne de Beaupre and attended annually for over 40 years. She was a member of Holy Family parish and held the position of Eucharistic Minister for several years. She was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Noella (Floyd) Marshall, Donna Stevens, Veronica Stevens, Gina Stevens, Shelly Stevens, Alexsanderine Stevens, all of Eskasoni; sons, Andrew (Kim), Ontario, Frankie (Jessie), Raymond, Allister (Keena), Norman, Bobby, all of Eskasoni; sister, Delores Hobby, Florida; aunts, Josephine (Leonard) Paul and Virginia (Joe Jay) Googoo. Dorothy is also survived by her princess, Anjelikah, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and godchildren.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Andrew Joseph Stevens, sister Marjorie Ann Sylliboy, brothers, Fred, Alfred and Joseph in infancy, granddaughter, Shellena and grandson, Joseph Tyrell.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Stevens will begin after 7 pm at 4248 Shore Rd., Eskasoni, on Saturday, May 17. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni. Rev. Reg Currie will officiate. Interment in the parish cemetery.
