JACQUARD, George Thomas- “I shall miss our conversations”. Age 79 passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on May 15, 2014. Born and raised in Comeau’s Hill, he was the son of the late Eddie and Jennie (Fitzgerald) Jacquard. He was predeceased by his wife Emily (Fitzgerald) of 53 years, brothers Charlie, Everett, Levi, Louis Joseph and Stephen; and sisters Madeleine Deveau, Catherine Harris, and Isabelle DeViller, his daughter in law Debbie Jacquard (Henry) and granddaughter Dominique Jacquard and great grandson Andrew Jacquard. He is survived by brother Stanley in White Rock B.C. and sisters Dorothy Hubbard, St. John NB, Gina Sardano-Chishom, Cohasset, Mass, and Julianna (Dolly) DeViller, Tewksbury Mass. He is also survived by sons Daniel (Charlotte) and Michael (Sandra) both of Comeau’s Hill. Kevin and Henry both of Yarmouth, daughters Barbara Jacquard and Donna (Darren) Deveau both of Yarmouth. Also grandchildren Jennifer Jacquard, Jeremie (Stacy) Jacquard, Christain Deveau, Alicia Jacquard and Timothy Simpson and great grandchildren Kourtni Beaulieu, Sophie Jacquard and Emery Melanson as well as many nieces and nephews in both the U.S. and Canada. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Evelyn (Roland) Bourque and Angele Surette as well as his special friend Eileen Pothier. George worked at several jobs in his early years as an assistant on the Pease Island Lighthouse and as a lobster buyer and smack operator on the Tusket Islands. In the late 50’s and early 60’s he worked both for the Armstrong and Kenney Construction Companies where he helped crack fill and paint virtually every new consolidated school from Beaver Bank to Yarmouth County. George and his brother Stephen opened their own painting company in 1967 under the name of G&S Jacquard which they operated together for 35 years until Stephen’s passing in 2002. In total George painted for 50 years. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely. He also enjoyed spending time everyday with his friends at Tim Horton’s or tinkering at home. He was a wealth of knowledge and a master of oral history that will be dearly missed. He will be best remembered for his funny stories and jokes. According to his wishes there will be no visitation or reception. Funeral took place Tuesday May 20, 2014 at 11:00am from Sweenys’ Funeral Chapel in Yarmouth, Father Maurice LeBlanc and Deacon Bruce Hubbard officiated. Burial took place in the St. Gabriel’s Cemetery in Comeau’s Hill. Family flowers only. A simulcast will be available during the service or may be viewed at a later date. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
