It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Christene 'Christie' Susan Caines on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at her residence.
Born in Glace Bay on Nov. 9, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John and Sarah (Lamey) McNeil.
Christie was a faithful member and supporter of St. John’s parish, Glace Bay. Her greatest love was for her family. She never missed an opportunity to show them how much they were loved and appreciated. For many years she was employed at Shore’s Store, Glace Bay.
Christie is survived by her husband, Jerry, daughter, Wendy (Henry), son, Kenny, both in Ontario, stepchildren, Deana (Jamie), Jerry (Emanuela), Kenny all in Ontario, grandchildren, Carolyn, Stacey, Trina (Ross), Tara, step-grandchildren, Victoria, Taylor, Nicole, Maitlyn, Tyler, Abby, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, her sister, Mary, brother, Tony (Helen), sisters-in-law, Gloria and Kay McNeil and 12 nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Sally, Jack, Alex, Richard, brother-in-law, Clarence, grandson, Brandon, niece, Rachael, nephews, Johnnie and T.J.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A celebration of Christie’s life will be held on Friday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Fr. Leo Boone officiating. The reception will be held in the church foyer.
Memorial donations may be made in Christie’s memory to the Cancer Patient Fund, CBRH, Sydney.
Christie’s family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to all those who journeyed with her and with them these past months, her doctors, VONs, palliative care workers, her niece, Kelly McNeil, her cousin, Sr. Martha Eileen and her friends.
Your loving care, support and compassion shown to Christie during these past months brought us all consolation and it was comforting to know she was surrounded by and cared for by those who meant so much to her. We will never forget your kindness and support.
