Annie “Jewel” MacDonald originally of Prince Edward Island, and a long-time resident of Toronto, Ont., passed on peacefully and surrounded by her family and loved ones at the Durham Regional Cancer Centre on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in Ontario. Jewel is survived by her daughter Sara Jane, her granddaughter Sienna June, and her many siblings along with her family by birth and family by choice.
Jewel was successful in business and in life. Those who knew her best know that we have lost one of the most selfless and caring individuals to ever cross our paths. She believed in paying it forward and lived by giving back and helping those less fortunate. Jewel supported many organizations such as the Cancer Society and the Lupus Foundation and had a special affinity for care and charitable awareness for the protection of children.
Jewel did not believe occasion, and most specifically death, should solicit monetary charitable contributions. She did believe charitable acts are often more valuable than monetary donations.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Toronto in coming weeks, and in keeping with Jewel’s love for sunshine and passion for travel, Jewel, family and close friends will meet again on her birthday in Jamaica to scatter her ashes in the Caribbean Sea so she may forever be surrounded by warmth and natural beauty.
