JANET TOTTEN

Totten, Janet May, 77, of Truro, passed away suddenly, Saturday, May 24, 2014 in Little Dyke. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Susie (Snow) Lynds. Janet and her husband Laurie travelled for several years in the armed forces, living in many places before retiring in Truro. Janet worked for many years as the manageress of the snack bar of the Dominion Store in Truro until her retirement. She attended the Central Nova Wesleyan Church, Truro. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26, Truro, Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler, piano player and enjoyed singing. She loved having family meals with her children and grand-children.
She is survived by her son David (Cindy) of Truro; daughters, Susan Pearce (Dave) of Truro, Pennie Sidoroff (Barry) of Truro; grandchildren Loribeth (Joel), Lindsay (Danny), Timothy, Abigail, Hannah, Travis, Destini, Tessa; 3 great-grandchildren; brother John Lynds (Mary) of Truro; several nieces and nephews; for the last few years, her companion and caregiver Duane Rector.
Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband Laurie Totten; brothers Ronnie Lynds, Paul Lynds, and Alan Lynds in infancy.
No visitation by family request. Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro from where funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2:00 pm. Rev. Ken Banks will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
