It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Darlene (Tighe) Ashburn, 54, of New Victoria, on May 30, 2014 at the QE II, VG Site, Halifax, N.S.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of John 'Jack' Tighe and the late Carmel (Parr) Tighe.
Darlene was a member of the former St. Agnes Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. She was the owner/operator of Needs convenience store on Plummer Avenue for 20 years. Darlene was a kind and gentle soul who loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed dancing and singing, but most importantly being surrounded by family and friends. She was very close to her father, whom she referred to as 'Daddy', and the two would often work together to keep the store in top shape. Darlene was always there to lend a hand to those in need and was responsible for spearheading several fundraisers in and around the community. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her husband, John Ashburn; siblings Barbara, Brian, Colleen (Wayne), and Madonna, all of New Waterford; nieces and nephews Lanna, Richelle, Lisa, Matthew, Brialee, Jackson, and Laura Dawn; grandnieces and nephews Tucker and Parker, Ellie and Kal, baby Kate, stepchildren Janet and Chris and their children.
Darlene was predeceased by her mother, Carmel.
Visitation will be held today (Monday, June 2) from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Tuesday, June 3 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue with Fr. Reg Currie officiating. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford.
