We regret to announce the passing of Margaret Irene Morrison, age 103, of Donkin on Friday, May 30, 2014.
Born in Donkin, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Katherine (MacDonald) Morrison.
In 1934, Margaret graduated from nursing at the Sydney City Hospital. She worked there, as well as in private duty at the Yarmouth Hospital, until she moved on to earn her nursing instructress certification from the Royal Victoria Hospital and McGill University in Montreal. In 1954, she accepted a teaching position with the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in Halifax, where she remained until retirement.
Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her sisters, Flora 'Flo' Morrison, Christena (Roddy) MacAskill, Elizabeth (Donald) MacKeigan; brother, John and a brother in infancy.
Margaret is survived by her sister-in-law, Irma Morrison-Mollon, Coxheath and nieces, Lori (Bill) Collins, Dartmouth and Janet Morrison, Vermont; great-nieces and nephews, Patrick (Susan), Kate (Adam King) and Andrew Collins, Maggie and Connor West; great-great-nephew and niece, Ian and Maia King. Margaret’s greatest love was her family and she is the last surviving member of the Morrison family of Donkin.
A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 5 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bob Biggar officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
