Isabel Watt (Shomph)

Lieu de naissance : Grand Etang
Date de naissance : 6 mars 1935

Lieu de décès : Dartmouth
Date de décès : 31 mai 2014

Isabel passed peacefully at her residence in Carter Senior Care in Dartmouth on May, 31, 2014, at the age of 79, with Bob, her lifelong love, at her side.
Isabel was born in Grand Etang, Cape Breton on March 6, 1935, the daughter of the late William and Itha Rose Shomph.
She lived most of her youth in Sydney, where she met and lived around the corner from the love of her life. She is survived by her husband Bob; children Robert (Elizabeth), Ottawa; Robyn (Paul) Watt-Dixon, Halifax; Jason (Kevin), Dartmouth; grandchildren Elijah, Isaac, Hannah, Maya and Xiaoyu, and sister Josephine (Bob) Steele, Sydney; beloved brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, step-brothers and step-sisters.
She was predeceased by her sister Irene (Al, still living) Boudreau of Sydney.
Isabel was kind-hearted, loving and was much loved by all who knew her. She was crazy about babies and animals, and spent her later years with her loyal dog, Ceilidh by her side, the lucky recipient of many treats and belly rubs. She had a tremendous sweet tooth and was often seen having her "usual" cinnamon-apple pancakes on Sundays at Smitty's.
She trained as a teacher in Truro, and remained friends with the "Seton Hall Girls" throughout her life. She worked briefly as a teacher in Sydney River and again in Port Cartier, Quebec after she was married. She taught English as a second language and provided private childcare in her home. Her favourite position was with the Dartmouth Public Library, Woodlawn Branch where she especially loved working with children and was known for always having books ready for their projects.
Throughout her brave, fourteen-year journey with Alzheimer's, Isabel still loved to sing and maintained her cheery personality and affection for everyone around her.
A heartfelt thank you to Robin Carter and staff, especially Crystal and Kathy at Carter Senior Care for their loving care; to nurse Helen Searle, Dr. Daniel Rayson, oncologist and Dr. Chris McKnight, geriatrician; a big thank you to Rev. Dianne Hill for her tremendous support throughout Isabel's journey; to all family and friends that have followed, loved and supported Isabel and family along the way.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St. in Dartmouth on Thursday, June 5 at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at Woodlawn United Church on Friday, June 6 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Woodlawn United Church Accessibility fund, or to the Alzheimer's or Cancer Societies.
Online condolences may be made to www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com, Dartmouth Chapel.
