Redmond Joseph Murphy, age 79 of Whitney Pier and formerly of South Bar, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at home.
Born in South Bar, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (MacNeil) Murphy.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer parish and formerly of St. Leonard parish. Redmond was active in the Army, Navy and Air Force Club in New Waterford for many years. He was employed by Canadian General Towers for over 30 years in Ontario, retiring in 1990 and returning to live in Cape Breton.
He is survived by his wife, the former Diane McCullough and his daughter Cara (Vladimir Perisic), Toronto, ON, and their children Simon and Nolan; also by his daughters Janice (Russell) Degnan, Ajax, ON; Laurie-Anne (Beth) Clinton, Toronto, ON; 3 grandchildren Angela (Sean) Sitaram , Ashley Degnan (Patrick MacGuire), Eric (Leslie) Degnan; two great grandchildren, Nya and Kaden and by a brother Gerald, South Bar; sisters, Mae (Al) Paegot, London, ON; Carolyn, Toronto; Mickey (John), Toronto; Aileen Bernard, Belleville, ON and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Gregory; sisters Patsy MacDonald and Jeanette Pottle and his brother Bill Murphy and half-brother Eddy Currie.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. Murphy. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Low Point.
