83 of Dartmouth, died suddenly on Tuesday, June3 while enjoying a day out with his cherished friends. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Kyle and Frances (Murphy) Johnson. Raymond graduated from the Saint John Vocational School in 1949 with a Diploma in Architectural Drafting and started his career with the architectural firm of Alward& Gillies in 1950. He later went on to a long and successful career in real estate planning and development with the federal government within the Department of Public Works. In his earlier days, Raymond loved to curl and golf and was an all-around sports fan, always following the Blue Jays and second guessing the manager's decisions and waiting and hoping for the next Stanley Cup for the Leafs. He liked to play cards and was always trying to keep up with his wife in the fine art of playing bridge. He was a great story teller and wouldn't think twice about stopping a stranger in the mall or in the grocery store line up to engage them in a conversation on just about any topic. He was a loving husband and father and a proud Papa who loved spending time with his family. Raymond is survived by his daughters Anne (Stephen) Hirtle of Quispamsis, NB; Karen (Jeff) Dennison of Tecumseh, On.; and his son Peter (Rachel) Johnson of Beaver Bank NS; grandchildren, Sarah and Andrew Hirtle, Emma and Sophie Dennison and Adam and Laura Johnson; sister Mary (Charles) Clarke and several nieces and nephews. Raymond was predeceased by his wife Valerie and brother Fred Johnson and brother and sister-in-law Donald and Carrie Johnson. Resting in Atlantic Funeral Home Dartmouth Chapel, 771 Main St., Dartmouth with visitation on Sunday June 8 from 6-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas More Church, 1 Kuhn Dr., Dartmouth on Monday June 9 at 11 am with a reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of donor's choice.
