It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Levi Henry Harris, 84, of Petit de Grat, who passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish.
Born in Great Harbour, N.L., on June 19, 1929, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Rose) Harris.
Levi fished in Glace Bay for seven years with his own vessel the “Joan Eileen” and then he and his family moved back to Arichat where he was a trawler captain for Booth Fisheries, Richmond Fisheries, and National Sea Products until his retirement in 1985. He was a mason and a member of the Richmond Lodge No. 97, St. Peter’s for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Genevieve (Samson) Harris; daughters, Joan Clannon, Petit de Grat, Judy (David) Kehoe, Arichat; son, Gary Harris, Petit de Grat; grandchildren, Shelly (Michael Kenny) Kehoe, Timmy Clannon, Sandy (Nicole) Clannon, Carly Kehoe, Noah Kehoe and Jordan Harris; great-grandchildren, Nena Laine Clannon, Myles Thomas Clannon; sisters, Florence Cluett, Chateauque, Que., Annie (Hubert) Coombs, Halifax, Eileen Sheaves, Port Aux Basque, N.L.; son-in-law, Milton Clannon; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Pardy) Harris. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Levi was predeceased by his brother, Sandy Harris; sister, Mary Rose, brothers-in-law, Wilfred Sheaves, Randall Rose and Joseph Cluett.
Visitation will be held at C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat on Thursday, June 12 from 7-9 p.m. and on Friday June 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Farewell will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Petit de Grat on Saturday June 14 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Burial to follow in the St. John Anglican Church Cemetery, Arichat.
Donations can be made to St. Anne’s Community & Nursing Care Centre, Arichat or to the St. John Anglican Church Cemetery Fund, Arichat.
