SMITH, Janie Elizabeth - Age 91, of Windsor, Hants Co., formerly of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in Bramber, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Agnes (Parr) Brown. Janie was a member of Windsor United Baptist Church and the Gliders Club. She enjoyed bowling, walking, knitting, reading, gardening and camping. Janie was a former Treasurer of the Cambridge Church. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Garth) Leary, Falmouth; son, Ron (Sandy), Kingston, Ont.; son-in-law, Gerald Sanford, Brooklyn; sisters, Agnes (Whitman) Lantz, Cambridge; Ada Starratt, Cambridge; grandchildren, Darren, Annette, Beth and Wayne; several great and great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special niece “Gerry”, who took great care of her at Dykeland. Janie was predeceased by her husband, Ainslie; daughter, Betty Sanford; brothers, Bernard, Kendall, Norman, Charles, Lowell, Malcolm and Rodney. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, June 15. A funeral service celebrating Janie Smith’s life took place 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 16 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Garnet Parker officiated. Interment followed in Pembroke Cemetery, Pembroke. Family flowers only, were by request. Donations in memory of Janie may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
