Passed peacefully away at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 15, 2014 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by parents Charles & Jessie and brothers Bernard & Brian. Gerry leaves his wife of 47 years, Evelyn (Meadus), and daughters Andrea Bennett and Karen Bennett-Clayton (Mark), both of Halifax, as well as his beloved grandsons Adam and Ben Reid, and Sam and Jack Clayton. Gerry also leaves his brothers Peter (Sadie), Liscombe, NS, Ed (Millie), Goulds, NL, and Joe (Annette), St. John's, NL, and his sister, Janet MacLean, Halifax, NS, sister-in-law Patty Godden, Goulds, NL, as well as brothers-in-law Owen Meadus (Barbara Cadigan) and Vaughn Meadus (Alda Halleran), both of St. John's, NL, and a large number of nephews and nieces. Gerry was never happier than when surrounded by his family, especially his grandsons. He lit up with love as soon as he saw them. Gerry was a life long Yankees and Blue Jays fan and, despite the best efforts of his son-in-law, was only a reluctant golfer. He was a happy man and lived a happy life with no regrets. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of his life at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. in St. John's, NL on Sat. June 21st, 1:00 to 7:00 PM. No flowers by request.
