Phillip Spencer Jones, age 71, of Cape Breton, N.S., passed away peacefully June 17, 2014 at the Ottawa General Hospital after a struggle with kidney disease, surrounded by his faithful wife, Phyllis, and his children.
Spencer leaves his children, Phil and Nicole (Eric), as well as his brothers and sisters, Mina, Betty, Tom (Lou), Kenny (Judy), Dennis (Pat), as well as his grandchildren, Ben and Jordan.
Spencer was preceded in death by his parents John Merlin and Erma, and parents-in-law, Gilbert and Marion Reid. He also leaves his nieces and nephews, Wendy, Michael, Tracy (Doug), Christopher(Sarah), Paul (Mary), Tammy and Jennifer; brother-in-law, Earl; sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Debbie and their families; many aunts, uncles, cousins and their extended families.
Born June 30, 1942 in Sydney, N.S., Spencer joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1961 and retired in 1995 as a Master Warrant Officer. In his time away from work he raised his family, spent time tinkering in the home garage, building things, enjoying wildlife, gardening, cottage weekends, and trips to the east coast of Canada.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the kidney dialysis team at the Riverside Hospital, they have been so good to us in care and generosity over the past two years, and also to the kidney dialysis team at the General Hospital for the last 15 day battle we faced, you were wonderful.
Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd., (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.), Nepean on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 3 p.m. until time of memorial service in the chapel at 4:30 p.m.
