Shirley Hart

Lieu de naissance : Glace Bay

Lieu de décès : Glace Bay
Date de décès : 21 juin 2014

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Shirley Hart. Shirley passed away suddenly at the Glace Bay Hospital on June 21, 2014, with her family by her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James Alexander and Helen Frances (Davis) MacKenzie.
In the early 60’s Mom, Dad and we girls moved to Massachusetts. In 1966, they welcomed a son. “the yankee”. Mom worked at Emerson Hospital in Concord, retiring after an injury. When our father passed, Mom moved back to Glace Bay and met some great friends who helped her through widowhood.
Mom was an avid bowler, liked darts and was a past member of the Reserve Mines Pensioners’ Club. She liked to shop, always bringing something home for someone. Most of all she loved to bake, sharing the results with everyone. Mom loved to travel and enjoyed cruises, trips to Europe, and numerous trips back to Massachusetts. She also liked the Savoy Theatre, attending many concerts over the years. Mom didn’t let her illness get her down and lived independently until the end.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Deborah Ann (William) Brown and their sons W. Jason (Allison) and their daughter Emma, and C. Aaron (Danielle Keough); Donna Paulette Hart and her children Lindsay and Ryan Young (Allison MacLean); and son William Thomas Jr. (Tracey) and their daughters Kaeleigh and MacKenzie. Her sister and friend Helen (Tony) MacNeil; special cousin Don (Eleanor) Phinney “The Gardener of Myrman Drive”; brother Daniel’s loving companion Marion; and lifelong friend Mario Colosimo.
Beside her parents, Mom was predeceased by her devoted husband, William Thomas Sr.; brother Daniel and his wife Rosie; sister Audrey MacNeil and her husband Frank and her life-long friend 'Booty' Colosimo.
Special thanks to Jenise, Thelma, Don and Eleanor of Myrman Drive, for the love and friendship shown to mom while she lived there. She treasured her time with you all. Thanks to the VON Angels, who came with a smiling face every day; Dr. Stephanie Ellerker and also the caring staff at Palliative Care and the Cancer Centre.
In honoring Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral mass. A graveside service and interment will be held 11a.m. Wednesday, June 25th, in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
Memorial donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the IWK or charity of one’s choice.
Online condolences to the Hart family can be expressed through the funeral home website at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
