Carol Eleanor MATTATALL

MATTATALL, Carol Eleanor - 71, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday evening, April 17, 2014, at home. Born November 19, 1942, in Surrey, England, she was a daughter of the late James and Joan (Whitcombe) Johnson. Carol worked as an office administrator over the years at Stanfield’s, Patterson Law and Grinner’s Foods, until she began working as a bookkeeper with her husband at L. Mason Mattatall Renovations and Repairs. In earlier years, Carol sang competitively and earned many awards. Later on in life, she enjoyed singing and the camaraderie with the barbershop group, The Melodees. She enjoyed bowling and absolutely loved animals, volunteering her time and making carrot cakes for SPCA fundraisers. Carol is survived by her husband of 50 years, L. Mason Mattatall; children, Joni (Brian) Crocker, Halifax; son, Michael (Kimberlie Sarters), Fredericton, New Brunswick; grandson, Damon Contant; sister, Beverley Langille, Truro; brother, Roy (Kay) Johnson, Deer Lake, Newfoundland; Damon’s father, Michael Contant; several nieces, nephews, in-laws and a wide circle of friends. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Gordon Langille. All are welcome to attend a graveside service that will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Watson Cemetery, Reverend Dan Gunn officiating. Reception will follow in McCulloch United Church, corner of Harmony Road and Camden Road, Harmony. If so desired, donations in Carol’s memory to Palliative Care Unit (Colchester East Hants Health Centre), SPCA or a charity of choice are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
