Cruise, Samuel Benjamin
Samuel Benjamin Cruise passed away peacefully at Extendicare in Moose Jaw, SK on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Ben was born on the homestead in the Cullyton School District west of Stalwart, SK on December 8, 1917 to Sam and Anne Cruise, the third son of four. He attended Cullyton School and got high school by correspondence. Later he received his Journeyman’s Certificate in Radio T.V. servicing from STI in Moose Jaw. Ben and younger brother George continued to farm and look after “Mother” after the death of their father Sam in 1939. Then in 1963 he was offered and accepted a job as an Electronics Technician at STI in Moose Jaw. In 1965 he went to Accra, Ghana, Africa where CIDA was building a Technical Institute and needed an instructor, and later principal. After four years, the fall of 1969 he returned to STI, started the audio visual department, where he worked until retirement in 1982. He reunited with an old girl friend, Isabel Langton-Fox and they were married October 23, 1970. Bennie and Isabel enjoyed traveling to South America, the USA, most of Canada and overseas. He belonged to the Sask. Wheat Pool Committee, Co-op boards, Moose Jaw Camera Club, Wildlife Society, Nature Moose Jaw, Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village and more. Ben was a life member, 65 years of the Amateur Radio League “VE5YJ”. He considered himself very lucky to have spent his time working at two hobbies he loved, electronics and photography. Ben was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife, Isabel on April 20, 2014, his brothers Ike (Lyda), Fred (Mildred), and George, as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He is remembered by sisters-in-law Ruth Cruise and Millicent Rogerson, several nieces, nephews and other family members. Ben’s Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W, Moose Jaw, SK with Rev. Deacon Arleen Champion officiating. Ben will be laid to rest on a later date at the Habitat Trust Wildlife Conservation area on the land he had donated to them. Arrangements are entrusted to Parkview Funeral Chapel.
