It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Clara Lillian Keagan, 93, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Ramea, Newfoundland, Clara was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Deborah (Crew) Dominey. She was employed as a personal care worker for a number of years at Stella Maris Residence, North Sydney and later at the Braemore Home, Sydney River. After her retirement, Clara became a volunteer at the Northside General Hospital and also working part-time at the McDonald Restaurant, North Sydney. She was a life member of the ladies auxiliary at the Royal Canadian Legion Br #19, where she volunteered helping with bingo games, the Rotary supper meetings and she enjoyed playing darts. Clara was a member St. Joseph Church, active with the CWL and was a member of the senior choir.
Clara is survived by her daughter Deborah (Bob) Jackson, North Sydney, granddaughters Benita (Brad) Bond, Heather (James) Burns, great-grandchildren Elena and Colin Bond, Cheyeanne, Amelia and Blake Burns, her two brothers Clyde (Marilyn) Dominey, London, Ont., Gerald (Ruth) Dominey, North Sydney, a sister Vera Generaux, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Clara is also survived by her family in New Zealand her daughter-in-law Weki Dominey and her grandchildren Raymond, Karol, Samuel, Marcus, Debbie and Louanna.
Clara was predeceased by her husband Gordon Keagan, a son Raymond Dominey, brothers Thomas, Harold, Garfield and Cecil, sisters Carrie and Ethel.
Visitation for Clara will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
