Harold Henry Ranahan, age 88, of the Northumberland Veteran’s Wing, Pictou, passed away July 3, 2014.
Born in Charlottetown, PEI he was a son of the late Earl and Mary (Murphy) Ranahan. Harry was a resident of Fraser St., New Glasgow before moving to the Veteran’s Wing. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow and a member of Branch 34 Royal Canadian Legion, New Glasgow. He worked as a carpenter and retired from Ford Construction. During WW II he served in the Royal Canadian Navy aboard the HMCS Dunver.
He is survived by his sisters Mildred Ranahan, New Glasgow; Joan MacDonald, New Glasgow brother Bill (Donna) Ranahan, MacLellan’s Brook; several nieces nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was predeceased by 7 brothers and 2 sisters.
At Harry’s request cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held at a later date in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northumberland Veteran’s Wing or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
