It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Birt MacKeigan on Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Cape BretonRegional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Caroline (Timbury) Maxwell.
Birt worked for several years at National Sea Products in North Sydney. She devoted most of her life to caring for her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She played darts and was an avid card player.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; her children, Kim (Sandy) Matthews, New Harris, Cavell MacKeigan (Rocky), Carl (Rose) MacKeigan, both of Sydney Mines, Maxine MacKeigan (Andrew) and Sandi MacKeigan, both of North Sydney; her nine grandchildren, Lesli (Geoff), Jami, Billy (Nicole), Tracy (Lee), Tyler, Amanda (Daniel), Bobby, Dawson, Austin; her six great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Hannah, Amber, Nicholas, Kaleb, Brooklyn and by several nieces and nephews.
Birt was predeceased by two sons, Billy, Bobby; a daughter in infancy; two great-grandsons, Jason and Joshua; two sisters, Girlie MacKenzie and Anna; five brothers, Kenny, Danny, George, Van and Odie.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Marjorie Serafinus officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the En Cala Palliative Care unit at the C.B. Regional Hospital.
