With great sadness, the family of Marjorie Egan, announce her peaceful passing at the age 93, on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Halifax Infirmary.
Born in North Sydney on Oct. 31, 1920, Marjorie was a daughter of the late Daniel and Irene (Sullivan) Steele.
She attended St. Joseph School in North Sydney and continued on, graduating from the Sydney Business College. She worked for a period of time with her uncle, Lawrence Steele, in office management at L.A. Steele Ford in North Sydney.
In her earlier days, Marjorie was an avid tennis player, curler, skater and swimmer. She possessed an outgoing personality and was well liked by all who knew her.
Marjorie lived in many places in Canada; Toronto, Regina, Ottawa, Nanaimo, St. Catharines, where she was an active member of the Maycourt Club, with a goal of reaching out to several charitable organizations; finally settling in Halifax for many years.
She is survived by her son, William D. Egan of Regina, Sask.; her sister, Anna Steele-Arbing of Halifax and her nephew, Michael Steele of St. Catharines, Ont.
Marjorie was predeceased by her parents; her husband Dr. William G. Egan; a sister, Audrey Steele and brothers, Donnie and Michael.
The family wishes to thank The Berkeley (Gladstone) and Berkeley Green Street for their wonderful care and concern, as well as the doctors and staff of the QEII.
Visitation for Marjorie will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will take place 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
