The death occurred at Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, of Velma Marie Bernard (nee Gaudet) of Miscouche, P.E.I., and formally of Alberton, aged 87 years. Velma was born on Feb. 13, 1921, in Alberton, P.E.I., to her late parents, Joseph and Celena (nee DesRoches) Gaudet. Beloved wife of the late Cyril Bernard and loving mother of Terry of Elmer, Quebec and Fred of Ottawa, Ont. Also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Lianne Krista and Vanessa and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Velma was predeceased by her son, Blair, her daughter, Sylvia, and the following brothers and sisters: Eleanor (Roger) Camire, Terry (Muriel), Theodore “Ted” (Grace) and Louise in infancy. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Tuesday, Jan. 6, then to St. John the Baptist Church, Miscouche, for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment to take place in the church cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations in Velma’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
