Eric Archibald Borden, 80, of Corner Brook, passed away peacefully at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on July 26, 2014. He was born on November 25, 1933 in Corner Brook to the late Archibald and Eliza Ann Borden of Greenings Hill. Eric loved the great outdoors. He loved camping and spent many days salmon or trout fishing and moose or caribou hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his many children and grandchildren and was quick to lend a helping hand with home or school projects. He loved seeing his family growing and making their way in life. Eric was a machinist at Bowaters and then Corner Brook Pulp and Paper for 42 years. He was an active member of IAMAW and spent time on the union executive. He retired in 1993. Eric is survived by his loving wife, Joyce (nee Buffett) of almost 60 years; six children: daughter Jennifer (Frank) Bruce, daughter Brenda (Dave deceased) Ginn, son Eric (Giselle) Borden, daughter Lynn (Rod) Gillam, son Ron (Cindi) Borden, daughter Alison (Trevorr) Nielsen; three surviving siblings: sister Betty (Boyce) Hallett, brother Larry (Beatrice) Borden, brother Bernard (Ann) Borden; thirteen grandchildren: Andrea (Barry) Williams, Rhonda (Mike) Langille, Laura Ginn, Peter Ginn, Stephen (Bernadine) Borden, Elizabeth (Ryne) Hepditch, David Borden, Jeremy Gillam, Kara Rae Gillam, Danielle Borden, Tyler Borden, Nadia Nielsen, Ari Nielsen; and his three great-grandchildren: Erica Williams, Jacob Langille and Ryder Borden; and many friends and relatives. Eric was preceded in death by his father, Archibald Borden, mother Eliza Ann Borden, brother John (Jack) Borden and brother Pearce Borden. The family would like to send warm and sincere thanks to Dr. Ismail, Paula Parham, CHF nurse and the ICU staff for their care and attention as well to the 3rd floor medicine staff. A funeral service will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel on St. Mark’s Avenue in Corner Brook at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29. Visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Mark’s Avenue on Monday, July 28 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The family will be greeting friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests memorial donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetic Association.
