BROOKLINE, Mass. – Josephine M. (Shaw) Black, of Brookline, Mass., died peacefully on January 6, 2010, at age 98.
Left to mourn are her sisters, Lillian Shaw, Brookline, Mass., and Eleanor Dunbar, New Glasgow; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Shaw, Springville; Marion Shaw, Elgin; nephews: John Shaw and family, Lorne; David Shaw and family, Elgin; William H. Black, Reading, Mass. and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Elizabeth Shaw; sisters: Marie, Margaret and Dorothy; brothers John, Newton and Dan.
Ms. Black worked in the Boston University library system for 22 years and retired in 1985. For 77 years she was an active and dedicated member of the Church of the Covenant in Boston, where she was ordained an elder and a deacon. She was a tireless supporter of Boston Aging Concerns, Match-Up Interfaith Volunteers and the Committee to End Elder Homelessness, and she gave generously of herself in everything she did.
A memorial service will be held at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, February 21 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. Interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.
