Lieu de naissance : SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de naissance : 26 août 1954
Lieu de décès : Coxheath, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 17 février 2010
The family of Valerie Chartrand would like to announce that heaven has received a new angel. Our mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and friend has lost her five-year battle with cancer. She is now peacefully joining her late father Louis Arsenault and other loved ones passed.
Valerie was not only a loving wife, mother and sister, she was also a woman with many accomplishments.
Her thirst for knowledge began as a nursing student at St. Rita Hospital and continued through to St. Francis Xavier where she received her BSC in nursing. The love she had for education and creativity has taken Valerie down many paths in her career. One of her favourite adventures was D’Vals Comforting Creations. Many people still remember Valerie as D’Val the gift shop owner with a heart of gold and a black belt in kindness. You would remember her if you’ve met her. She is the type of person to touch your soul in some way or another.
Valerie was born Aug. 26, 1954, in Sydney and grew up a spirited little red headed girl on Fairhaven Drive in Westmount.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Mary and Maurice MacDonald; sisters, Mary Lou (Tom) Stobbs and Corinne (Kurt) Albiez and brother, John (Ruth) Arsenault. Valerie will be missed and remembered by her devoted husband, Lloyd Chartrand; her three children, Katie (Craig) Hodder, Jonnie (Kaitlin) Chartrand and Mary Chartrand. ‘Grammy Valerie’ will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren, Lily Anne and Jude Rylan.
Our family would like to thank the staff of the CBRH cancer centre and all of the angels up on the palliative care floor. Valerie herself enjoyed the many years she worked as a nurse and to be the one receiving such loving care from your healing hands touched her heart deeply and ours too. Thank you all!
Following cremation, we invite all who were touched by Valerie, to join us for visitation at Chants Funeral Home, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, from 6-9 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Valerie’s memory can be made to the CBRH cancer centre and the palliative care unit. Valerie had once quoted “Pets are like children in fur coats.â€
Donations to the SPCA would be an amazing way to keep Valerie’s compassion for animals alive.
