DAVIS, Michael Augustine (Austin) OC — Having burned the candle at both ends, Austin died as he lived, with spirit, on Sunday January 4, 2009. Michael (Austin) Davis was a well known actor (Pigeon Inlet, The Rowdyman), businessman, civil servant and dedicated community volunteer. Predeceased by his father Richard and mother Bridget, infant son Richard, brother Bernard, sister May, brother-in-law Jack, nephews Gerry and Freddy Basha, great-nephew Mark basha. Celebrating a life well lived and saddened that he has left us is his sister Eileen Basha, children Gerry, Evelyn, Siobhan Coady (Patrick), Renee Konigs (Raymond) and their mother Patricia Delaney. Grandchildren Brook, Jake, Delaney, Ryan and Marc. Much loved nieces and nephews, especially Sharon Basha. Many cousins and extended family especially Liam Halley. Many life long and new friends, poker players, colleagues, and members of ACTRA. Austin embraced life to the fullest. Born in Fortune Harbour in 1927, educated at St. Bon’s, Laval University and Waterloo University, he began his career in Grand Falls. He was purchasing manager of A.N.D. and was responsible for the development of Moby Joe, paper machine. He moved his family to Corner Brook where he worked with Lundrigan’s and then moved all to St. John’s when he accepted a position with the Federal Government. He loved the stage and spent wonderful times on it and in the Northcliff Drama Club. He continued his acting career and appeared as Uncle Elis Bartlett in the Pigeon Inlet series as well as too numerous to mention CBC productions. He was nominated for a Genie (ACTRA) in 1981 as supporting actor in a tv series. He appeared in almost every movie made in the province from the Rowdyman to the Red Door. He was a great orator, storyteller and life enthusiast. Austin was known for his hospitality. He taught the Dale Carnagie Program and lived what he learned. He loved his family. His advice, guidance and wisdom will be missed. He believed in community service and even to his last day was thinking of new ways of helping Kids Eat Smart. He was honoured in life with the Order of Canada for his contributions to the Arts, the 125 medal and the Queens Jubilee medal for his volunteer activities. In his memory, rather than flowers, please make a donation to the Kids Eat Smart program or the Gathering Place. He would have much rather helped someone. Austin will be celebrated at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, January 5 and Tuesday January 6, 2009. Mass of christian burial at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. Interment in Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, January 8, 2009.
