It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our son and brother on Feb. 20, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital at the age of 55.
He was the beloved son of Gerald and Goldie Bonnar, Alder Point, loving brother of Charles (Terry), Port Colborne, Ont., Leonard (Pauline), Sydney Mines, Willard (Rosemary), Alder Point, Doreen (Joe) Smith, Thunder Bay, Ont., Florence (Elmer) Kempt, Niagara Falls, Ont., Bonita (Dale) Barrie, St. Catharines, Ont., Christena (Maurice LeBlanc), Alder Point, Catherine (Charlie LeBlanc), Welland, Ont. He will be sadly missed by many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Eric.
Gerald was born in Alder Point. In his early years he moved to Guelph, Ont., where he worked in a hat factory. He then returned home to Cape Breton and lived in Sydney Mines most of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
Donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, Cancer Research, the Kidney Foundation or a charity of choice.
