It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Robert Derek Tanner, beloved son, father, brother, grandson and uncle on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 in Ontario, where he resided.
Born in North Sydney he was the son of Denise (Tanner) Gale. In his earlier years Robert enjoyed playing sports and recently he enjoyed spending weekends at the trailer with his son, Connor.
He is survived by his mother, Denise Gale and his stepfather, John Gale; his son, Connor; brothers, Justin (Lisa) Tanner, Devon Gale and Dakota Gale; his maternal grandparents, Bill and Linda Tanner, North Sydney; his aunt, Jan (Norman) Ferguson; his two nephews, Jessie and Matthew. Also surviving are his special friends and second family in Ontario, Angelica Helpard (Connor’s mother), Jessica Helpard, Janette & Jim Scolin, Mike & Collette Pedrozo, their children Lauren, Broden and Layla.
He was predeceased by his great-grandparents, Clarence and Agnes Tanner and John and Chris Mann.
Visitation for Robert will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Cremation will follow.
