VanWART, ANNA C. (nee LEE) - 1923 - 2014 - Anna Clarice VanWart passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29th, 2014 at the age of 91. She is survived by Jack, her loving husband of 69 years; children, Nancy (Charles) of Calgary, AB, Bill (Brenda) of Fredericton, NB and Janice (Brian) of Fredericton, NB; five grandchildren, Michael, Will, John Arthur, Aldea, John Andrew as well as ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Helen Lee; sisters, Dorothy Lee and Mary Lee and brothers, Harold Lee, Dr. Earl Lee and Dr. William "Bill" Lee. Anna was raised in Fredericton on Kings College Road when it was still considered in the country. Her father, a butcher by trade, ran a grocery store on Carleton Street in downtown Fredericton. Anna was a graduate of Fredericton High School and the Victoria Public Hospital Training School for Nursing (RN 1945). She worked at the Victoria Public Hospital and the UNB Health Centre. In the 1960's, Anna joined the YMCA/YWCA and began jogging. She instructed classes in Ladies Fitness at the "Y" and was the first woman in New Brunswick to complete the National YMCA 100 Mile Run, a Centennial (1967) project. She could be seen jogging around Fredericton with her dog Gertrude. Anna spent the summers at the family camp on McLaren's Beach in St. John West. She loved having her family around her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. For the last few years, Anna resided with Jack at Orchard View Long Term Care in Gagetown, NB. The family would like to thank the staff at Orchard View, who have become like family, for their loving care and kindness.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4th, 2014 from 12 to 2 pm, followed by a memorial service in the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel at 2:00 pm. Rev. H. G. MacKenzie will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Anna made to Orchard View Long Term Care would be appreciated by the family. www.mcadamsfh.com
