We the family of Aeldred Gerard Sampson regret to announce his passing on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary (McMullin) Sampson.
Dad is now at peace as he is joining his loving wife and best friend, Betty (Farrow) Sampson, who passed away on Jan. 7, 2014.
Dad was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan who had many competitive discussions with mom, who was a devoted Boston Bruins fan. He enjoyed working with his hands, doing renovations, yard work and mechanical repairs. Dad drove a taxi for 30 years in the Glace Bay area.
Aeldred is survived by his two sons, Derek (Bernice), Cecil (Kelly); three grandchildren, Gauge, Makyla and Tyler. His greatest fulfillment in life was when he became a grandparent, he always had a special love and bond with his first grandchild, Tyler, who was his pride and joy. Aeldred is also survived by his three brothers, Aubrey (Jean), Fred (Barbara), Murdock (Bernice) and his sister-in-law, Celeste.
Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by two brothers, John and Harvey, and a son, Jason, in infancy.
No visitation, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. Interment at St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines.
As an expression of sympathy for Aeldred, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation.
